Committees
Formation
The original six Mattoon in Motion committees were created directly from the 2017 Mattoon MAPPING Action Plan.
As we go through a MAPPING update in March of 2022, community members can expect for these committees to be updated as well as we reevaluate our goals and strategies to develop new projects.

Sports Complex
The idea to develop what is being called the Lincoln Land of Sports Complex was started in May 2019 by local business leaders. The City of Mattoon’s long-term plans included the development of a similar idea; and Mattoon in Motion has the means to take it to the next level.
The Development will leverage the economic and social benefits of the growing sports tourism industry, which continues to expand rapidly – now accounting for $45.1 billion in spending in the United States according to a study conducted by the Sports Events and Tourism Association. This spending additionally generated $103.3 billion in direct, indirect, and induced business sales and generated more than 69-million hotel room nights.
